Equipment FAQ’s

  • Why do I need a weight belt?

Without weight you will be too buoyant in a 5-7mm wetsuit. being too buoyant makes controlling your movements in the water really difficult. A weight belt with around 4-6 kgs on it will make you just negatively buoyant so that you can comfortably sit in the water in a vertical position plus you will not splash when you kick on the surface.

  • What thickness wetsuit will I need?

Warmer the better. Observing wildlife generally does not involve much movement, so you get cold quickly. 5mm is the absolute minimum that you will be able to get away with from July onwards, before that you will need 7mm minimum in order to be able to stay in the water for any length of time. We highly recommend you use a freediving suit rather than a surf suit as they are much warmer. A dry suit is not appropriate for snorkelling.

  • Do you hire equipment?

Yes we hire out equipment! You can ‘add on’ some or all equipment to your order when you book online. Also, be sure to enter your size when asked (for each participant). See prices below.
